Mum's the word

Mums play a star role in the bridal party and want to shine on the big day too.

Some may agonise about what to wear, the right colours to choose, hat or fascinator, killer heels or comfy flats? The choice can be overwhelming, especially if you're not used to shopping for special occasionwear.

Karen Forte opened her bridal boutique 20 years ago and has a wealth of experience in the wedding industry. Set in the picturesque village of Bassingbourn, Cambridgeshire, as well as gorgeous wedding and bridesmaid dresses, she offers stylish mother-of-the-bride and -groom ranges. Here she shares some top tips to help your important other leading lady find the perfect outfit.

❤ Choose a colour that suits you. You don't have to match the bridesmaids as their group shots are usually taken with the bride and groom.

❤ A-line skirts are very popular this season, however don't be a slave to fashion. Choose a style to suit your personality as well as your shape.

❤ Statement hats are making a comeback and look stunning with fuller A-line styles.

❤ Keep shoes simple and classic and make your outfit the main focus.

❤ Shopping in specialist stores offers a degree of exclusivity so it's less likely anyone else will be wearing the same outfit.
