Award-winning Norfolk wedding supplier Kerry Ellis of Epic Event Hire has returned to work for the NHS during lockdown and helped to raise more than £14,000 for local hospitals and health services into the bargain.
A former medical secretary for the NHS before launching her business, Kerry has returned as a key worker while weddings and events have been on hold. She's also part of a group raising money for NHS Superheroes, which so far has raised more than £14,000, including £3,203 alone from a fund-raising VE event. The money is being used to distribute items to hospitals and local NHS workers including toiletries, coffee machines, biscuits and more.
The group's team of six volunteers from the local community include Kerry and her husband Dan, a wedding DJ. So far, as well as local hospitals, they've helped Norwich Ambulance Services, West Suffolk Hospital Mental Health Services and doctors surgeries, delivering everything from hand lotions, vitamin drinks and energy smoothies to tea, coffee, and uniform bags. "To date we've spent more than £6,000 on items which our NHS contacts have requested to help make our superheroes lives a little bit easier during these unprecedented times. Next on the wish lists are shampoo, conditioner, lip balms plus much much more," says Kelly.
