Wedding Hair Removal Tips: Is IPL Right for Fair or Blonde Hair Brides?

If you've ever looked into laser hair removal, you may have learned that it's less effective on blonde hair. Trish Coulton, founder of hair removal specialist brand Bondi Body is here to tell us more.

"If you’re fair with golden hair, the biggest thing is managing expectations and timing so you’re not stressing right before the wedding. IPL can be amazing for long-term hair reduction, but it is less effective on lighter hair. The key thing to understand is how IPL actually works. Devices like the Bondi Body V2 IPL Laser use light that targets pigment in the hair. The darker the hair, the more light it can absorb, which is what helps weaken the follicle over time. Very light blonde hair can struggle because there’s just not enough pigment for the light to lock onto, but if your hair is more on the darker golden side, you can still get really nice results - especially with consistent use.

"That’s why the Bondi Body V2 IPL Laser can be a great option if your hair has enough colour in it, and if you start well ahead of the wedding rather than relying on it for a last-minute fix. Ideally start treatments 8–12 weeks before the wedding however, noticeable hair reduction typically starts after around 4 treatments. And you can use it at home so a lot more convenient than booking salon time out when you’re already planning for your big day.

"For a guaranteed smooth finish for the big day, waxing or sugaring is usually the safest option. I recommend doing it around 3 days before the wedding, so any redness or sensitivity has fully settled and your skin looks calm and polished. If you are using the Bondi Body V2 IPL Laser as part of your routine, I’d stop IPL about a week out and finish with shaving if needed - it keeps everything predictable and avoids any surprises close to the event.

"The biggest tip is to trial whatever method you choose beforehand. When it comes to weddings, planning always beats panic!"
