August/September 2019

As the last embers of summer fade into autumn, it's fair to say we've enjoyed the usual mixed bag of Great British weather this summer. Although I always feel a little down when the nights start to draw in, I soon perk up when all the colours of the season reach their full glory. It’s a wonderfully romantic time of year, perfect for taking time out from the wedding planning to relax and enjoy the great outdoors before the hectic festive period and bleak winter weather kicks in.

There’s rich pickings to be had too for autumn-themed weddings. East Anglia's blessed with plenty of glorious countryside and forests, so why not grab your partner, pull on your wellies and head out for a forage and be inspired by nature’s bounty for your big-day palette. There’s a wealth of natural material available at this time of year, think shiny conkers, twigs, brambles, ornamental gourds in different shapes and sizes, pumpkins and richly coloured blooms like dahlias and chrysanthemums.

And while your out and about in the region, check out the local venues, suppliers and host of big-day options on your doorstep. If your heart’s set on a picturesque outdoor space for your big day, don’t miss our showcase of stunning venues with glorious gardens, starting on page 25. As well as making the most of the great outdoors, we offer ideas and advice on ways to help protect the planet and lower the carbon footprint of your day. Check out our showcase of eco-friendly products on page 57 and for tips from local experts on making greener choices for your big day, flip to page 101.

Ravenwood Hall

This versatile venue offers the best of both the old and the new. Located just three miles from Bury St Edmunds, it’s set in glorious secluded grounds and provides the ideal setting for a country house wedding.

There’s a choice of varied spaces, whether you’re looking for old world charm or contemporary chic. Parts of the hall date back to the days of Henry VIII and the main building offers a traditional feel with original features including exposed beams and open fireplaces. The atmospheric Tudor Room is licensed for ceremonies and can host up to 70 people for your ‘I dos’ and 50 seated guests for the reception.

Set in the grounds, the contemporary-style pavilion provides a light and airy space with its own gardens and private lawn; great for a relaxed summer wedding. You can tie the knot here with up to 130 loved ones, enjoy al fresco drinks post-vows and continue the celebrations inside with a seated wedding breakfast or buffet-style reception. With nearly seven acres of grounds there’s no shortage of great photo opportunities and plenty of space for marquee receptions for as many as 500 family and friends.
