February/March 2024

Welcome to our February/March issue and congratulations to those of you who recently got engaged; we can’t wait to help you plan your special day!

Planning your wedding can feel overwhelming, especially at the beginning, but try not to panic. Weddings aren’t one-size-fits-all, so make the day about you, your interests and your love story. For example, if you love Harry Potter, why not incorporate it into your day? After all, it’s your wedding! Having trouble getting started? I found that the best thing to do when I got engaged was to make a list of everything that I’d like to include in my day. From the big things like the venue and photographer down to the smaller details such as the cake topper and jewellery. The list might be a few sentences, or five pages long(!); both are absolutely fine. The list is there so you can find which items are important to you and to help you focus on one thing at a time.

Focus on your venue first, as this will dictate the day and time that you’re getting married. Due to the knock-on effects of the pandemic, many venues are still getting booked years in advance, so get your dream space locked in as soon as possible and then you can start thinking about your other suppliers. If you’re not sure what type of venue you want for your big day, check out our venue features for heaps of inspiration.

Happy planning!

Oxnead Hall

Oxnead Hall is a multi-award-winning wedding and events venue nestled in the glorious Norfolk countryside. Offering exclusive use for your special day, Oxnead Hall has plenty of places to explore and luxurious accommodation for up to 32 of your guests.

The Fountain Room is adjoined to the Great Barn and seats up to 140 guests for a civil ceremony. It’s an elegant, light-filled room, subtly decorated with statues and mirrors, with double doors leading out to the Fountain Courtyard.

St. Michael and All Angels Church is a beautiful Medieval property secluded by the surrounding woodland. Seating up to 90 people, St. Michael’s is the perfect choice for an intimate church wedding.

The gardens at Oxnead Hall are wonderful for outdoor ceremonies. The Tudor Parterre, the lake, the woodland and the water gardens offer a truly romantic setting for al fresco celebrations.

For smaller marriages, the Orangery can hold up to 50 friends and family. Flanking the parterre and leading down to the lake, the Orangery is a tranquil oasis ideal for dreamy weddings.

The award-winning Great Barn is the main event venue, seating up to 200 people for dinner. Recently refurbished while retaining its historic charm, it now boasts air conditioning, underfloor heating, a sound system and atmospheric lighting. The flexible space has plenty of room for a dancefloor, live band, DJ, or other musicians. In addition, there is a fully serviced bar and carefully designed toilets, including disabled and baby-changing facilities. The rustic setting of the barn, combined with the latest technology, allows you to create the country or rustic wedding of your dreams.

The Great Barn and the Fountain Room open out to the charming Fountain Courtyard. Ample outdoor seating allows your guests to relax and catch up in this sheltered courtyard, surrounded by lavender and roses. The fountain, which is lit at night, creates a spectacular centrepiece that your guests will gather around to chat and drink together before returning to the Great Barn to continue the celebrations.

These daily habits are ruining your wedding ring

These daily habits are ruining your wedding ring

If you've been the lucky recipient of a diamond ring or a piece of jewellery, Nilesh Rakholia, jewellery expert and founder of Abelini, has shared exactly how to care for your precious diamonds to ensure they last a lifetime... Nilesh says: "While it can be tempting to wear precious items such as an engagement ring all the time, daily habits such as cooking and cleaning can damage your jewellery. To avoid this, we always recommend removing jewellery before showering or washing up because the soap can cause a film to form, which can leave rings and bracelets looking dull."
