The year ahead promises even more freedom when it comes to the wedding breakfast with continued love for relaxed dining, report East Anglian wedding experts.

Although the formal plated meal remains an evergreen favourite, particularly for more traditional affairs, emerging trends underline a growing shift towards help-yourself tables, sharing platters and people-friendly options to help guests mix and mingle. We spoke to Hayley Thurston of Cambridgeshire-based Dolly's Vintage Tea Party to get her take on latest trends for 2019 weddings.

Hayley has her finger on the pulse when it comes to what's trending in weddings, covering everything from how to set the scene to preparing delicious dessert tables. She says:

* Long trestle banquet tables are in favour with rows of low-level flowers, candlesticks for simple styling, delicately placed greenery and personalised luxe stationery. This look is great for a relaxed feel and allows guests to see and chat to each other while they eat, without any obstructions. They can also move from table to table more freely.

* Dessert tables are great fun and are sure to get your guests talking. Different types of sweet treats will add interest and texture to the display. Think feasting tables, piled with styled cheese boards, fruit pies, doughnuts and good old English trifles. Use props to position the desserts at different heights and create a focal point to tie the whole look together.

* Weddings in 2019 will continue to embrace vintage tableware, props and upcycled furniture. Whether it's rustic, opulent or a simple minimalist style, reinventing pieces with age and history is a great way to create breathtaking backdrops for your celebration.

* Using stoneware as an alternative to china alongside linens and recycled materials will give the reception styling a more organic and eclectic look.
