Escape into a summer of extraordinary weddings with a new book due out in May inspired by the varied and interesting experiences of a Suffolk wedding registrar.
Jane Golding worked for 15 years as a Suffolk registrar mainly around the Sudbury and Ipswich areas and officiated at hundreds of wedding ceremonies. Her sister author Eve Edwards has now written a new book 'The Summer of Wishful Thinking' loosely based on her experiences
."My career as a registrar started in 2004 when my children were both at school and I was looking for a part time job. I spotted an interesting vacancy in the local register office which sounded perfect. I applied and, much to my astonishment, was successful and I started the following week. The part time local job soon progressed into a full time position based in the main Suffolk office.
"My duties included registering births, deaths and marriages Monday to Friday, as well as conducting weddings at the weekend. This meant travelling with a colleague to a wonderful variety of wedding venues in the county, I loved meeting the public at lif- changing moments. Conducting weddings was a privilege and I was proud to be part of each couple's special day," says Jane
Over the years she was part of many memorable weddings and shared some special moments including conducting a ceremony, complete with owl ring bearer for a Harry Potter themed wedding, despite her fear of birds. "I'm still scared of birds but the memory of that wonderful day makes me smile every time I think about it," she recalls.
"I love telling these tales to my family, including my sister. Already a successful novelist, she asked me for stories from my work, the funny, heart-warming and the sad moments and The Summer of Wishful Thinking is the result.
