Serena and Jordan first met through mutual friends in a bar and quickly bonded over a shared love of food. Jordan was living in Stoke on Trent at the time and after a week of constantly messaging each other, he drove down to meet her for lunch before dashing off on holiday the following day.
“When he returned two weeks later, he got a taxi straight from Manchester Airport to my house, dropped his suitcase at mine and never left,” laughs Serena.
They were together for nine years before Jordan popped the question after dragging Serena off on a surprise three-hour bike ride to arrive exhausted and bemused at the five-star Luton Hoo Hotel where he proposed in a secluded waterside rock garden. Despite the gruelling journey, she said 'yes' of course and they toasted their engagement with a champagne picnic. The surprises kept on coming throughout the day, including a relaxing trip to the spa, their own luxury suite, room service and a host of other treats before being joined by family members to share the celebration. They tied the knot 18 months later on 12th August, 2016 and styled their day around a classic, glamorous theme with a lush colour palette of champagne gold, cream and deep red tones with soft pink and peach accents. Here, Serena tells us more about their dream day...
My Caroline Castigliano ball gown-style dress wasn't what I was initially looking for but my mum preferred it to the more fitted styles I favoured at the time. On the day it felt just right and I was very glad I'd listened to her.
I arranged the helicopter flight for Jordan and the groomsmen and he kept it a secret from the rest of the lads, so they were all very excited when it turned up!
We had beautiful, tall flower displays in crystal vases with hanging Swarovski crystals as centrepieces, surrounded by candles and low -level gold vases of fresh roses. The tables were scattered with petals with a red rose tied with a gold ribbon at each place setting.
The cake was amazing! Presented on a champagne gold sequin tablecloth, it was five tiers of perfection, set off by a gold leaf layer, a delicate lace and pearl design and absolutely stunning cascading flowers.
The favours were gold tea light holders engraved with guests' names. We held a brunch the next day and gave everyone their candle mementos to take home.
We used crystal glassware and décor with candelabra and candlesticks for added romance, hung glass tea light holders from the trees and had extra moodlighting throughout.
The table plan was a handmade blossom tree with hanging crystals and laser-engraved, acrylic place names tied with gold ribbon.
As well as a magician entertaining our guests all day, we had live music and a mirror photo booth, which was very popular.
We had a large ice sculpture champagne bar for the magnums of bubbly.
We had interactive food and drink including a dry ice gin bar and an oyster meister who not only served and opened the oysters, but talked to guests about how best to enjoy them.
