October/November 2020

One of the many wonderful things about working in the world of weddings is that there’s always something to smile about. Throughout the current challenges, we’ve been inspired by stories of suppliers and venues going above and beyond to help couples planning or rescheduling their big day.

Businesses have been busy behind the scenes, staying in touch via video calls and sending out messages of reassurance to keep all you newlyweds-to-be out there excited for your big day to come. With an ever-shifting landscape, no one can predict exactly what the future holds, but post-lockdown we're likely to see more micro weddings taking place with some couples grabbing the chance to tie the knot as soon as they can and party later. Downsizing your big day doesn’t have to mean compromising on the look either, you can still have an intimate wedding that’s big on style! Local experts reveal how in our special feature, starting on page 55.

Let’s face it we could all do with an extra dose of joy, so this issue as well as all the regular real weddings, expert tips and inspiration, we bring you cake – lots of it! From page 51 we showcase a whole gallery of magnificent creations – everything from gravity-defying tiers, to quirky designs, bold colours and unusual flavours – all made by talented local suppliers. So get the kettle on, put your feet up and enjoy!

Alpheton Hall Barns

Alpheton Hall Barns offers a mix of ancient and vintage farm buildings; great for a rustic chic theme. Think Medieval honey-coloured oak beams, lime plaster walls, big barn doors and corrugated tin roofs, with all the comforts of modern heating, as well as high-tech lighting and sound systems. Bursting with character, the black featherboarded barns are surrounded by fields, next to Alpheton Church. There are plenty of outdoor areas for fabulous photos, drinks receptions, entertainment and al fresco catering for the evening. The Wedding Garden has its own brick terrace and space for garden games and there’s a courtyard complete with a wood-fired pizza oven.

Ceremonies are held in the West Barn, which includes a handmade oak ceremony table, full aisle and a stone floor. Receptions take place in the South Barn, which is the largest and oldest of the two. They’re both connected, so there’s no risk of guests getting wet if the weather’s bad. Complete with a bar area, room for a band or disco, as well as tables and seating for the wedding breakfast, it provides a flexible space for parties of 60 up to 250 of your family and friends.
