December/January 2021/2022

Christmas is nearly here and we couldn’t be more excited! Like everyone, we’re hoping everything stays on track so that we can all enjoy plenty of the customary festive cheer with family and friends that we’re used to. One thing the last 18 months has hopefully taught us is to not take things for granted, so I for one am determined not to sweat the small stuff, embrace the moment and, if I can’t get hold of my favourite brand of chutney, no worries – time to try something new!

Although we don’t like to count our chickens (or should I say turkeys) before they hatch, since restrictions eased, the floodgates have opened and 2022 looks set to be one of the busiest years for weddings in decades! With the Christmas and New Year proposal season about to add to the surge, we’re looking forward to bringing you lots of lovely local weddings to inspire and excite you in the months ahead. The ripple effects of the pandemic will be felt for some time to come and will continue to influence wedding trends moving forward. Demand for weekday, outdoor and intimate weddings is likely to continue, along with greener more sustainable options for the big day. Many of the important things about getting married have been brought into sharper focus too, like the vows and individual, special details to add that extra personal touch. Couples are looking closer to home for their suppliers bringing extra provenance and local flavour to their celebration and with a wealth of talent in the region, there’s plenty to choose from. This issue, from page 79 we look at what’s likely to be topping the menu for weddings in the year ahead.

Don’t miss the winter wedding shoot on page 49 either for a host of styling ideas from a team of inspirational local wedding experts. Packed with all the usual bridal fashion, beauty tips, honeymoons and more, we can’t wait to hear all about your wonderful weddings! Don’t forget to get in touch after your big day for the chance to share the joy with our readers. Have a very merry Christmas; see you in 2022!

Bressingham Manor

Cosy up at this beautiful Victorian manor house. Perfect for a winter wedding, the exclusive-use, Norfolk venue oozes character and style. With tall chimneys, Dutch gables and ornate, detailed red brickwork, there’s a wealth of standout features inside and out. Decorated in subtle Farrow and Ball colours, the interiors are adorned with cornicing, dado and picture rails, gorgeous light fittings and stained glass windows, creating a wonderfully romantic and inviting atmosphere.

Set in four-and-a-half acres of grounds, there’s a vast garden at the back with mature trees and a small woodland area, open parkland beyond, and a large patio too. Your very own home away from home, you and your guests won’t need to leave the house if you don’t want to. There are working fireplaces in the study and kitchen and, as it’s mainly a dry-hire venue, you can decorate it how you like. Think garlands draped around the bannisters of the sweeping staircase or a Christmas tree in the main entrance.

Tie the knot in the south-facing drawing room; light and bright with two sets of bay windows, chandeliers and a marble fireplace, it can host up to 100 ceremony guests and 80 for the wedding breakfast. For more intimate ‘I dos’ the cosy study is ideal. When the weather’s fine you can exchange vows outside in the gardens, sign the register in the study and celebrate afterwards with a marquee or tipi reception for up to 200 loved ones and invite more for the evening celebration.
