Hurray for spring! It’s my favourite time of year; driving to and from work in the daylight always makes me feel more
energised, so instead of slumping on the sofa when I get in, I’ve embarked on a major spring clean. Needs must, as I’m in the process of moving house and after years of hoarding, I’ve had to be ruthless. The mantra of tidying guru Marie Kondo – if it doesn’t bring you joy, get rid – has been my salvation! It’s been a wrench ditching some of the sentimental stuff but, oh the joy of tidy drawers and being able to find what I need, when I need it! My local charity shop is delighted and the benefits have far outweighed the brief pangs of regret after ditching my daughters’ pre-school artwork. What’s more I’ve rediscovered a few long-lost treasures along the way.
It’s a bit like wedding planning really – a journey of discovery! It’s so much easier when you have a goal and a tick list. Getting those troublesome tasks out of the way early, like doing the sums and keeping on top of the wedmin, is always a relief freeing up more time for all the fun stuff, like shopping and cocktails with your besties. As always, we’re here to help with advice from local experts and a whole host of fresh ideas. Covering everything from dressing the bridal party on page 73 to showcasing the work of some of the region’s talented wedding photographers on page 67; we’re on the case, helping you create your dream day. Bedford Lodge Hotel & Spa
This luxury four red-star hotel combines the best of the old and the new. Steeped in tradition the elegant white building dates back to the 17th century while the interior is modern and chic.
You can host your whole day here and invite as many as 150 guests for the wedding breakfast and a further 30 for the evening do. There are a number of versatile spaces for the ceremony to suit weddings large or small and the glorious grounds provide a wealth of wonderful photo opportunities. With around three acres of immaculate lawns, lovely rose gardens, herbs and plants, there’s a host of beautiful backdrops to choose from.
Receptions are held in the Classics Suite; a spectacular setting with stunning chandeliers and cornices to add to the grandeur and elegance. It can also be conveniently partitioned to provide two smaller rooms and benefits from a private bar area as well.
The entrance to the spa is a popular spot for just-wed shots. Restored in 2013, the building has kept much of its Georgian charm and the grand entrance includes a pathway of striking ivory pillars; picture-perfect in the spring when the wisteria’s in bloom.
