Their romance hit new heights on date five, when Sam asked Ruth to be his girlfriend as they were climbing Mount Snowdon during a camping trip in Wales. Their relationship blossomed and when it came to the proposal, Sam chose another panoramic location and popped the question on a clifftop in Cornwall while they were on holiday in January 2020. Ruth knew it was going to happen at some point as they’d already chosen the ring. “However, the time and place were a complete surprise,” she adds. They set the date for October 2020, but after Covid wrecked their original plans, they decided to go ahead and get married in their local registry office with just their immediate family and postpone their humanist ceremony and reception until September 2021.
