June/July 2018

The sun shone, the crowds cheered and the country was awash with red, white and blue. Harry and Meghan, now the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, tied the knot ending months of speculation about the dress and all the details of their big day.

Personally, I loved the elegant grace of Meghan’s no-frills Givenchy gown by British designer Clare Waight Keller. Meghan looked effortlessly gorgeous and relaxed, Harry seemed suitably awestruck and, all in all, I thought the whole look perfectly suited the chilled, natural style of this very modern couple.

You don’t have to be royalty though to achieve the same effect; your wedding should reflect you as a couple, your lives and loves, whether it’s a small intimate affair or lavish celebration. With summer finally here and the wedding season in full flow, we’re here to help with ideas and inspiration to create your day, your way.

This issue is packed with ideas to celebrate the season with everything from summer fashion and beauty tips to expert advice for festival-style weddings.

Once you’ve decided on the time and the place, thoughts can turn to the details that make the day your own – the theme, colour scheme, décor and personal touches. To help get you started, flip to page 55 for a trio of moodboards full of stunning ideas from local experts.

Sporting big-day settings to get your heart racing

Bedford Lodge Hotel & Spa

This AA-listed four red-star luxury hotel is situated in the heart of Newmarket, renowned as the historic home of British horse racing. Originally a hunting lodge built for the sixth Duke of Bedford in the 18th century, it was converted into a hotel in the 1940s. Set within a mile of the town’s two racecourses, adjacent to the gallops, the venue is flanked by some of the most famous paddocks and training stables in the world.

Nestled in three acres of secluded rose gardens, it provides the perfect blend of old and new, retaining the charm of a country house but with all the luxury and comfort of a modern boutique hotel. Pride for the town’s rich racing heritage is evident throughout, from the variety of locally inspired artwork to a colourful collection of racing silks. The elegant white stucco building is sure to impress and the private rear gardens provide a stunning backdrop for photos.

Ceremonies are held in the recently refurbished Classics Suite which offers a stylish yet neutral setting to complement different themes and colour schemes. Complete with a fully licensed private bar, there’s room for 150 guests and with the addition of partition walls, the flexible space can be tailored to suit you. Come the evening, it can be transformed with a purpose-built wooden dancefloor; perfect for partying the night away with up to 180 of your nearest and dearest.

We love... that newlyweds-to-be can enjoy a complimentary pre-wedding Rasul Experience at the hotel’s 5 Bubble-rated spa, including use of the heat and hydrotherapy facilities, light lunch and a glass of fizz each.
